A resident of Nalasopara, Patil was spotted by eyewitnesses near the seashore at around 11 am.
Seen sobbing before the jump
She was sobbing at the time and later, she asked a few boatmen if they would take her to Vasai, her father's home. Since it was lunchtime, no one agreed and at around 12 noon, she jumped off the bridge above.
The Mira Bhayandar police and the fire brigade were informed instantly and they rushed to the spot, but despite mounting a search operation, her body is yet to be found.
Called her father
According to sources, however, before taking the extreme step, she called her father Morya Patil and took care of her affairs.
A search operation is underway to locate Vaibhavi Patil's body
"I heard my daughter's voice on the phone, but I was helpless and unable to do anything to save her. I immediately rushed to the spot and when I reached, I found the fire brigade staff along with the police already searching for Vaibhavi's body," Patil said.
He has also alleged that she chose to end her life because of continuous quarrels with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law and was also harassed by them. As the search operations are still underway, the police has not filed a complaint yet.
