Mumbai: Western Railways begin drive to nab troublemakers in trains

Mumbai: Western Railways begin drive to nab troublemakers in trains

The Western Railways (WR) in Mumbai will start targeting people who travel on footboards and on rooftops of trains from July 2.


The WR police will begin a drive that will be carried out till tjhe end of September. Sources said that they would be sending men in civil clothing and have already prepared 10 different teams for the same.


"We would be catching those who cause nuisance by traveling on the footboard. Our men in plain clothes will keep a watch," said Anandvijay Jha, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (Mumbai), WR.


As of May 2016, the Western Railways' Police Force have already caught 1562 people under section 156 of Railway Act and collected fines amounting to Rs 5.52 lakh.

In 2014, they booked 1648 people and fetched fines of Rs 3.76 lakh while in 2015, they caught 2364 people and collected fines amounting to Rs 8.24 lakh.

The officials will be traveling in local trains where they would target those groups as well who purposely disallow people from boarding or alighting a train compartment - a sight that is very common.
