Mumbai: Was MNS leader arrested by Aarey police over trespassing charges?

The Aarey Milk Colony police station authorities on Wednesday allegedly arrested local Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Ashish Patil in connection with the case of tree plantation that was done in the month of March this year by Raj Thackeray’s wife Sharmila Thackeray and son Amit Thackeray. It is said that Patil was arrested on charges of trespassing.

It should be noted that in the month of March this year, the local MNS leader Ashish Patil had organised a protest against the proposed car shed of Colaba-Bandra-Seepz underground Metro line three that was going to come up at Aarey. During the protest, many MNS workers had gathered near the site and Sharmila Thackeray had even done plantation of trees along with others who were present.

On Wednesday evening, Patil had gone to Aarey police station to register a complaint regarding a different matter and this is when he was allegedly mishandled and arrested.

One of Patil’s friend said, " We had come here to register a complaint regarding a different matter but rather than taking the complaint, the police officials arrested Patil and that too for planting a tree at the car depot site. There have been thousands of people who have visited the car depot site including politicians, actors and other celebrities but I don't know why all of a sudden they arrested Patil."

Patil's friend also told mid day that he was later released on bail.
