The 38-year-old Russian woman who has accused a 56-year-old police officer of holding her in captivity and repeatedly raping her for close to 14 years, has claimed that Chembur cops are trying to shield him. The woman had filed an FIR against the cop at Chembur police station on Thursday night.

Advocate Nitin Satpute, counsel of the survivor, said, "The officer who recorded my client's statement was junior to the accused, and she tried to omit many details provided by my client which could weaken the case. The accused was repeatedly calling my client and asking her not to register the case. We had shared this information with cops, but they haven't acted yet." The survivor has alleged that the police let the accused flee after registration of offence.

Anil alias Bhanudas Jadhav, the accused, is posted as an inspector in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissionerate. He has been booked for allegedly raping and making the survivor have an abortion twice. "An offence has been registered against the accused. The victim has described the crime which lasted around 13 years. We will go step-by-step in this case to get more evidence," said DCP (Zone 6) Shashi Kumar Meena.

Jadhav is a controversial officer. In 2010 he allegedly beat up his doctor wife, who registered a complaint with Crime Branch and Deputy Commissioner. In 2011, when Khalapur cops raided a bungalow in Raigad during a rave party, he was arrested there. He was booked under the NDPS Act and jailed. But he was reinstated. Jadhav was booked and arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on September 28, 2019, for demanding a bribe of R10 lakh from an accused for filing a favourable report in court. He was released on bail.
