Mumbai: IT issues plague students appearing for HSC IT paper!

Even in the last leg of the board examinations, anxious moments for HSC students seem to be far from over. Students appearing for their Information Technology (IT) paper were left fretting yesterday after the server crashed in some examination centres.

Most students have completed their HSC exams last week, except for those appearing for the IT paper, which is being held this week. Many students choose IT, considered a scoring subject, instead of going for the option of second language.

The IT examination, conducted across three days in batches in select examination centres, is held online. On Tuesday, the first day of the IT exam schedule, servers at Kandivli and Borivli centres crashed, while around three centres in Mulund faced power failure. “Out of 40 students appearing for their IT exam at our centre, only eight could log in to the website.

The rest could not even see their question paper. We have informed the board and have been told that a new schedule will be prepared for the remaining students soon,” said a spokesperson of a Kandivli college where the exam was conducted. Students panicked when they could not log in, even as some students were attempting the paper in the same room.

“We got scared and informed authorities. They got in touch with the board officials and now we have been told that our exam will be held again,” said a student. The board’s helpline was also ringing incessantly yesterday, with anxious students who could not attempt the paper attempting to contact them.

“Some students who were appearing for their exam in Mulund called to complain that there was some power failure and they could not appear for their paper. We have forwarded their complaint to authorities,” said a counsellor, adding that most centres had no problems and the exam during both morning and afternoon batches were conducted smoothly.

When mid-day contacted officials at the city divisional board, they seemed unaware of the problem. S Chandekar, Mumbai divisional board secretary said, “If we did not receive any complaints, it means that it was a minor problem. Our reason for conducting the IT exam in batches over three days is to make sure that issues like these do not disrupt the schedule.

Those who were unable to give their paper will be adjusted in batches in the next two days.” The state board website also stated that students who were unable to attempt their paper on Tuesday can contact authorities for rescheduling their exam.
