On Tuesday night, Constable Subhash Misal of the Worli police was sent to arrest a drunk man who was sitting on the roof of a house on Annie Besant Road. Upon reaching, he made phone calls asking for support staff. Jayant Sawant, a night duty inspector reached the spot to help him.
He noticed that Misal was under the influence of alcohol and asked an officer to take him for a medical test. Misal did not like this and got furious. He picked up a bamboo stick lying nearby and attacked Sawant.
Sawant is recuperating in Jaslok Hospital. Misal has been suspended and charged under Sections 323 and 353 of the IPC and Section 85 of the Bombay Prohibition Act. He was produced before the Bhoiwada court and has been remanded in police custody till Thursday.
