Police officers investigating the case said that the motive for the killing was robbery, as cash and valuables from the cupboard were missing, according to the victim’s son. The matter came to light after the victim’s son returned from work at 5.30 pm. Senior police inspector Rajkumar Wakale, from Kanjurmarg police station, said, “When the victim’s son came home, he found the main door ajar.

After entering the flat, he saw his mother’s body lying in a pool of blood, with stab wounds on her neck. While the jewellery on her body remained untouched, cash and gold ornaments kept in the cupboard were found missing. Some clothes were strewn across the room. A robbery and murder case has been registered against the unidentified accused.”

According to the police, the deceased person had telephoned one of her relatives at 4 pm, and based on that the cops believe that the murder occurred some time after 4.30 pm. The victim’s son Shyamal Sawant (30) told police that a plumber was supposed to visit their residence in the evening, and the initial finger of suspicion points to him. Police have launched a manhunt to trace the plumber.u00a0
