The police said it took them an hour to get Dhotre’s body out of the vehicle, as the front of the car went under the truck
According to the police, after partying in Dahishar, the five friends left the place at around 5 am to go home. The group, between the ages of 27 and 30 years, are residents of Kandivli and Borivli. They were travelling in Dhotre’s car, which was being driven by Velenkar.
The duo was sitting at the front and the other three friends Amit Kamble, Mihir Revankar and Vaibhav Jadhav were sitting behind. Velenkar was driving on Dahisar-Borivli link road opposite Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Polytechnic, when he lost control of the vehicle and dashed into a parked truck.
Dhotre died on the spot and the remaining four were taken to Shatabdi Hospital, where Velenkar was declared dead at 2 pm. Police Inspector Anil Avhad of MHB colony police station said, “It took us an hour to get Dhotre out of the crashed vehicle as half of the car went under the truck. We have not been able to take the statement of the three survivors as they are still in a critical condition.”
Another cop from the police station said, on the condition of anonymity, “While we were taking the bodies out of the car we could smell alcohol, which is why we suspect that they were going home after partying all night.” A case has been registered under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
