Tata Power consumers are set to pay more on their electricity bills with the company proposing a hike in tariffs in the energy charges levied in bills
There’s bad news for consumers of Tata Power, with their power tariffs too set to go up in the days to come. Tata Power has proposed a hike in tariffs in the energy charges levied in bills, which is mainly levied for using the electricity.

But all those who are with Tata Power but want to flock to Reliance Infra will pay less due to a drop in Wheeling Charges.
For instance, the energy charges and variable charges, which is normally found in electricity bills, will increase for everyone right from the consumers who are Below Poverty Line (BPL) to those consuming 500 units and more. On the other hand, the wheeling charge, which is billed for all those who are using Tata Power line but have flocked to RInfra has gone down from Rs 2.08 per unit to Rs 1.72 per unit.
The Tatas want to recover Rs 230 crore out of various judgements passed by the Appelate Tribunal of Electricity. Meanwhile, residential consumers consuming between 101-300 units will now have to pay Rs 2.57 per unit from the existing Rs 2.05 per unit and it is proposed that the variable charge be increased from the existing Rs 4.13 per unit to Rs 4.56 per unit. Those consuming 301-500 units and above 500 units, will have to face an additional 3 per cent increase in variable cost. Similarly, the energy charges too will increase marginally.
However, in comparison to the recent hike proposed by RInfra and BEST, Tata Power continues to remain cheaper. For all those consuming 0-100 units, while the Tatas have proposed Rs 2.62 per unit, RInfra proposes Rs 5.14 per unit and BEST has proposed Rs 3.55 per unit. While for those consuming between 101-300 units too RInfra remains costliest at Rs 7.73 per unit, while Tatas have proposed Rs 4.56 per unit and BEST Rs 7.43 per unit.
