Colaba recorded a maximum daytime temperature of 29.4 degrees while Santacruz recorded 31.5 degrees. The meteorological department has forecast daytime temperatures to be less than 31 degrees for the next 48 hours.

Rainfall was experienced in Andheri, Malad, Dahisar in the western suburbs and some parts of Kalyan, Thane, Dombivli. Until 6 pm on Thursday, the island city had experienced 3.6 mm rainfall, eastern suburbs had 12.79 mm and western suburbs had 10.05 mm.

The IMD has predicted ‘a few spells of rain and thundershowers’ for the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the catchment area of lakes also received good rainfall as follows: Modak Sagar (34 mm), Tansa (23 mm) and Middle Vaitarna (36 mm) until 6 pm on Thursday.

This might help resolve the current water cuts of 30% being faced by residential areas and 50% borne by commercial establishments.

Official speak
“This is monsoon itself and not retreating monsoon. There were fears of the retreat starting sooner, but that will not happen. The retreat will start only after September-end. People can expect this respite for the next few days,” said V K Rajeev, regional director, IMD.
