The girl Pallavi Umesh Ballal (16) residing at Geeta Nagar Jhopatpatti, Homi Bhabah road, in Cuffe Parade committed suicide by setting herself ablaze on Monday night at 9.30 pm.

Pallavi ended her life, according to persons known to her because her neighbouru00a0 Shakir, who worked as a driver, was constantly harassing her after getting her employment as a maid with his own employer, a few months ago.
According to the police, Shakir's employer terminated his services and he thought that Pallavi was the reason behind it.
When Pallavi reached home, she was accused by Shakir and other relatives of complaining to Shakir's employer and then was beaten up by them.
On Monday at 9.30 pm Shakir's family again allegedly beat Pallavi and her brother Akshay (15) when he intervened.
Unable to bear the constant beatings and harassment, Pallavi locked the door on entering her home and doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire.
She was rushed to G T Hospital where she died yesterday afternoon.
The police were faced with a mob insisting that they arrest the accused at the Cuffe Parade police station last night.
Th police registered an FIR and detained Shakir and his brother Tahir.
"A FIR has been registered. We have detained two accused. Further investigation is going on," said J K Kharat, senior inspector, Cuffe Parade police station.
