The members of the union were supposed to assemble at Azad Maidan in Mumbai today to address the mathadi workers from across Maharashtra state in order to put their demands before the Chief Minister.
Over 50,000 mathadi workers were expected to attend the meeting and suspend a day’s work at the APMC markets across the state.
"The decision to suspend the strike was taken by the general secretary of the union, Narendra Patil after hearing the loss of Munde sir. However, the union has decided to stage the same protest on June 11," a member of the union said.
The mathadi union has been agitating against the state government since a while, as it failed to hear their plights and demands.
Earlier on May 28, the workers had suspended a day's work at APMC markets across the state, bringing the agricultural trade to a standstill.
Allocation of houses for mathadi workers in Navi Mumbai, better pay structure for cleaning workers, jobs for the educated children of workers in mathadi board are some of the demands which the union wants the state government to fulfil.
