Man thrown off Dadar TT flyover succumbs to his injuries

Biker was thrown off the Dadar TT flyover by a speeding car, but survived after falling on a double decker bus; however, he had sustained multiple fractures and a head injury and passed away last morning

After falling off the Dadar TT flyover on Monday night, Anwar Shaikh succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning at Sion Hospital. Shaikh met with a severe accident on the Dadar TT flyover when was returning home with a colleague on his Honda Activa. He was pushed to the wall of the flyover by a speeding car and landed on a double-decker bus that was passing below.

He was rushed to Sion Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 3 am. Doctor treating him said multiple fractures and a major brain injury had caused his death. “He had lost a lot of blood by the time he came to the hospital. We rushed him to surgery but unfortunately he succumbed to the injuries. We sent the body for post-mortem,” said a doctor from Sion Hospital.

Matunga police station has acted promptly post the incident and has managed to catch the driver of the tourist vehicle, which caused the accident. They had managed to get the contact details of the owner of the tourist vehicle. The driver had fled the spot after the incident. However, as the police officials working in tandem with traffic police managed to receive the contact details of the driver, he finally gave himself up around 4 am yesterday.

Speaking to mid-day, B M Kakad, senior inspector from Matunga police station, said, “We immediately received the contact details of the accused and managed to nab him by Tuesday early morning. At first, we booked him under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (act endangering life), 338 (grievous hurt) of the IPC and 134 (A) and (B) (pertaining to drivers) of the Motor Vehicle Act. But as soon as we were updated about Shaikh’s death, we also booked him for 304 A (death by negligence). The driver’s name is Ijaz Shaikh (33). Medical tests revealed he wasn’t drunk, but lost control over the vehicle.”
