Officers from Rabodi police station arrested a 25-year-old man for trying to extort his best friend’s girlfriend by threatening to circulate their personal pictures on social networking sites. An officer from Rabodi police said that on June 15, the complainant received a pendrive via courier, loaded with the couple’s pictures they had clicked during a recent picnic. She later received a call from an unidentified man threatening to make her affair public by uploading these pictures on social media if she refused to pay him Rs 5 lakh.
Investigation later revealed that Agarwal was part of the picnic and transferred the pictures onto his phone after requesting his friend to lend him his cellphone for making an urgent call. Cops are now probing whether the complainant’s boyfriend is involved in this matter or not.
“After the complainant received a second call on June 16, she approached us and registered an FIR against the unidentified caller,” the officer added.
Trap laid
Following primary investigation, cops decided to nab Agarwal by promising him the amount he demanded from the complainant. Accordingly, a trap was laid and he was nabbed from BKC on Wednesday. “He was produced in the court and has been remanded in police custody for two days,” Senior Inspector KJ Chavan from Rabodi police station said.
Another cop said, Agarwal told them that he is son of a businessman and was to leave for Kerala to pursue an MBA degree. “He said he wanted the money to clear business debts. But we suspect he wanted it to have fun in Kerala,” the officer added.
