A 39-year-old man identified as Badshah Singh, a Kisan Nagar resident, was spotted by locals screaming for help while stuck in the creek under Kalwa bridge in Thane, last night. He was rescued by disaster management officials after locals informed the authorities about Singh’s plight. Singh sustained severe injuries to his back and legs and has been admitted to a hospital.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Friday. Singh told the police that he was standing at the bridge and fell off it, but cops believe it could be a case of attempted suicide. Singh’s statement will be recorded during the course of the day, an official from the disaster management cell said.

Santosh Kadam, officer, Disaster Management Cell, said, “The incident took place around 12.30am. We received a call about the man falling into the creek at Kalwa Khadi under Kalwa bridge. A team of nine officials from the disaster management cell reached the spot and along with the local police spent about 30 minutes rescuing Singh. Officials managed to rescue him only because it was low tide and he had got stuck in the mud. He could have drowned had it been high tide. He was admitted to Thane Civil hospital.”
