Bhoiwada man cancels wedding 15 days before, because his friends tell him that his bride-to-be is too dark-skinned for him

Clearly, as far as Bhoiwada-resident Ravindra Vasant Ambawkar (32) is concerned, if a woman is not fair, she certainly can't be called lovely.

Ravindra refused to go ahead with his wedding to Aarti Mane (31, name changed) scheduled for yesterday, because his friends reportedly told him that she was too dark-skinned.

Rajendra Panchal (35), Aarti's cousin, said, "Aarti was sobbing when she told us that Ravindra called her to say that she was too dark, and that he would only marry her if her family paid him Rs 1 lakh in dowry.

On November 29, when my brother and my uncle went to Ravindra's house with the first of the 200 cards we had printed for the wedding, he refused the card.u00a0

He told us that he did not want to marry Aarti, as she was too dark. He got engaged to my cousin in the presence of all our relatives only to back out later."

An FIR was registered against Ravindra at the Turbhe police station on October 8. He was charged with demanding dowry from the Manes, who reportedly spent over Rs 65,000 during the engagement ceremony.

Ravindra's brother Mahesh confirmed that his family decided to cancel the wedding, just 15 days before the event.

"My elder brother wanted to meet Aarti to confirm if she could not see with her left eye as someone told us. She refused to meet my brother, who simply wanted to allay his suspicions.

The entire event left him so stressed out that he left home without informing anyone. We have lodged a missing persons complaint at the RAK Marg police station."

Kshirsagar R Vasantrao, assistant police inspector, Turbhe police station, said, "We have registered an FIR on Tuesday against Ravindra under relevant sections of the Dowry Prevention Act.

He has been absconding since the time the case was registered against him. Our search is on."

Sex, Bargirls and the Fairness Factor

Mumbai's bar girls, are known to prefer sex with men, who are tall, fair and well built, when they want to have children outside marriage.

What the women and their families dread most is having dark-skinned girl children.

The women, who mostly hail from tribal families from Agra, Jaipur and Dholpur that follow prostitution as a hereditary profession, earn between Rs 20,000 to Rs 3 lakh a month, depending on their looks.

Do we need a brown is beautiful movement?

Black is beautiful is a cultural movement that was started in the United States of America in the 1960s by African Americans later spread to much of the black world.

It aims to dispel the notion that black people's natural features are inherently ugly.

Activist John Sweat Rock coined the phrase 'black is beautiful' during a speech in 1858.

Write in to tell us if is it time Indians chucked all the fairness creams flooding the market and took pride in their glorious brownness.
