The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is the planning authority of Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region, on Monday announced that it had implemented infrastructure projects worth around Rs 6,000 crore in the city in 2014.

In a press release, MMRDA stated that it had delivered infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,955 crore. Among the key projects commissioned during the year include India’s first monorail project, connecting 8.93 km of Chembur-Wadala corridor, worth Rs.1,200 crore and the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro rail project costing Rs.2,365 crore in 2014.
The other vital infrastructure projects delivered during the year included 17-km Eastern Freeway, built at a cost of Rs.1463.87 crore; 3.5-Km Santacruz-Chembur Link Road constructed at a cost of Rs.428 crore; 1096-metre long flyover at Amar Mahal Junction worth Rs.76 crore; 2-km Sahar Elevated Road worth Rs.400 crore and the south-bound arm of Kherwadi flyover worth Rs.21.96 crore.
The press release further stated that the Authority also approved projects to the tune of Rs.69,425 crore to ramp up Mumbai’s infrastructure in the near future. These include the 33.5-km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz (CBZ) Metro corridor project worth Rs.24,340 crore, 40-km long Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd (DCBM) Metro Corridor at an estimated cost of Rs.25,605 crore and 32-km long Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali (WGTK) Metro corridor requiring an expenditure of Rs.19,097 crore.
“The authority also approved four flyovers at Bandra-Kurla Junction and a Bandra-Kurla-Chunabhatti (EEH) connector at a cost of Rs.227 crore and Rs.156 crore respectively to ease traffic in Bandra-Kurla Complex further.” An MMRDA official said.
In order to spruce up the transport infrastructure, MMRDA is presently executing projects worth Rs.22,816 crore. The MMRDA will take up a 22-km Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link project estimated to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.9,630 crore and Phase-I of Virar-Alibaug Multi Modal Corridor with at a cost of Rs.9,326 crore.
Besides these, the Authority will also be implementing the 10.24-km of Wadala-Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk Mono Corridor (Phase-II) with an estimated cost of Rs.1,260 crore and the Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project worth Rs.2,600 crore. The extended MUIP projects include development of 275 km long road network, 14 flyovers, three creek bridges and two Road Over Bridges.
