MMRDA completes tendering process for Mankoli-Motagaon bridge

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has completed the tendering process for constructing 1266-metre long bridge between Mankoli and Motagaon on the Ulhas creek. The construction of this six-lane bridge is expected to commence soon and will be completed within 3 years.

The bridge will connect the National Highway-3 (NH-3) with the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation area. The bridge will also provide vital connectivity between NH-3 and Kalyan bypass.

"As per the feasibility study carried out by the authority, it was concluded that constructing a road at grade was impossible in this area because of a huge mangrove belt, environmental clearance related issues and slushy area surrounding and parallel to the railway track. Hence the construction of a Creek Bridge was finalized by the authority," said Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director, (Public Relations), MMRDA.

This creek bridge will reduce the traffic congestion on the NH-3 and NH-8. The traffic will be diverted directly via Kalyan Ring Road-Katai Naka-Badlapur-Karjat-Hal Link Road to Khopoli (NH-4) without having to go through Mumbra, Kalamboli and Panvel.

"We anticipate some land acquisition during the construction of this creek bridge. The estimated cost of the bridge is Rs.245 crore and the construction will be completed in 3 years." concluded Kawathkar.
