Nurse in charge of the neurosurgery OT claims it is a conspiracy
Can you imagine if the scene from Munnabhai MBBS, where Arshad Warsi and his posse drink alcohol and gyrate to the tunes of a dancer came true? Well, for the medical staff at JJ Hospital, Byculla, that scene almost came true. In an embarrassing turn of events, liquor bottles and caps of other liquor bottles were found in the operation theatre. On Tuesday, a class-IV servant by the name of Naresh Pandit was cleaning the operation theatre (OT) in the neurosurgery department on the fifth floor when he realised that he was locked inside the OT.u00a0 Desperate to get out, he called up the resident medical officer (RMO) to let him out. When the RMO rushed to his rescue that is when the bottles were found lying in the servants' changing room, which is a part of the operation theatre.

"This is a very unfortunate event and we will punish those who have dared to drink inside the hospital. The sister in-charge, Kasturi Kadam, who is responsible to manage affairs inside the OT is careless and tomorrow morning I will conduct an enquiry into the matter," said Dr T P Lahane, Dean of JJ Hospital.u00a0 When MiD DAY contacted Kadam, she denied her involvement in the entire situation. She said, "Yesterday (Tuesday), I was unwell and had not gone to work. On Wednesday, the Dean asked me about the liquor bottles but I was completely unaware how the bottles reached the OT. I am a union member and some people must be trying to implicate me."
A senior doctor on condition of anonymity said, "The entire situation is very embarrassing for such a well-reputed hospital. The fact that the liquor bottle entered the hospital in such a sensitive area shows that there is clear lapse in security too."
