The Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a private security guard and the security supervisor of a Mumbai mall for negligence in frisking people after they failed to detect two undercover constables who entered the mall as decoys with pistols.

The guards let in the constables who visited Ghatkoper's R City Mall as decoys without proper checking and failing to detect that they had pistols tied to their ankles.

An officer from Parksite police station in Vikhroli, which arrested the duo, said, “Our officer tied a revolver in his shin with a handkerchief and was successful in getting inside the mall, so due to their lack in security, we have registered a case against them and arrested the guard and their supervisor.”

The guards were arrested and later released on bail after registering a case for negligence under the IPC against them, said Rajendra Kulkarni, senior inspector of Parksite police station in Vikhroli.

"Considering the terrorist attacks in Punjab and the city being on high alert, we have tightened vigil in our area," Kulkarni said.

"Some days ago we had warned the concerned people at the mall about lax frisking at the entrance, but they took no steps to tighten the security," he added.

More such check would be carry out in the city in coming days, Kulkarni said.

This is the second such case registered in the eastern suburbs against mall authorities due to their lack of security which could endanger thousands life.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinaykumar Rathod (zone 7) said, “Despite several warning as the mall authorities didn’t improve their security, a case was registered against them and two of their staffer was arrested.”
