British High Commission issues advisory on 'taxi scam', Oz grades India with a 'high degree of caution' warning

The feud between private AC cabs and prepaid black and yellow cabs has now crossed the border and made it on the travel advisories of Britain and Australia.

The British High Commission (BHC) in its travel advisory issued on July 27 has asked citizens to be wary of a 'taxi scam' at both the terminals of Mumbai airport.

It warns against thieves posing as government officials at the airport and advises them to travel by coach.

"This has come in the wake of armed robberies, wherein taxi passengers were looted by robbers on the highway from the airport to the city."

"The advisory was issued on the basis of media reports and experiences shared by our nationals," said a spokesperson from the BHC.

Marchive Laurane from France welcomed the advisory. "I was duped by a taxi driver in Delhi, who charged me
Rs 3,000 for what should have cost barely Rs 200," she said.

And Oz says

Meanwhile, the Australian High Commission (AHC) has asked citizens to exercise a high degree of caution in India around Independence Dayu00a0 because of the high risk of terrorist activity.

"Australia's travel advice for all countries is updated every three months and more often if needed," said an AHC official.

And Interestingly...

AHC says: Avoid temporary 'black henna' tattoos, as they may contain a dye that can cause serious skin reactions.

BHC says: Be aware that drinks served in bars overseas are often stronger than those in the UK.
