The potholes at the recently constructed Lalbaug flyover, it seems, has already registered its first victim ufffd the soon-to-open Suman Nagar flyover.

After NCP and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar took a dig at the Chief Minister-led Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) when it was learnt that the Lalbaug flyover had developed potholes, the MMRDA, to avoid any further embarrassment, is planning to open the Suman Nagar flyover at Chembur in the month of August and not July, as it had planned earlier.

According to highly placed sources at the MMRDA, officials have been instructed that the engineers working on the project should not compromise on quality, in trying to quickly complete the project. "The authorities are of the opinion that it doesn't matter if the opening date is delayed by a month. All they want is that the flyover should not develop potholes the way Lalbaug flyover did," said the source.

When contacted, MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilip Kawatkar said, "The date to open the flyover has not been finalised." He refused to comment on whether the opening of the flyover will be postponed to August.

The flyover, when opened, is expected to provide much relief to passengers traveling from South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, as the Suman Nagar Junction has proved to be a major choking point for traffic.
