Abhishek Shirke claimed that API Deepak Shinde, who had made a station diary entry against his father Dilip Shirke on Friday night, had been harassing him for the past six months
Two days after his father killed Senior Police Inspector Vilas Joshi and then turned the gun on himself, ASI Dilip Shirke’s son claimed that an assistant police inspector was responsible for both the deaths. Abhishek Shirke (23) said that Assistant Police Inspector (API) Deepak Shinde had been harassing his father for the past six months, forcing him to take the extreme step.

He claimed Shinde had been cooking up allegations of absenteeism, making adverse station diary entries against Shirke and had been giving wrong information to Senior Police Inspector Vilas Joshi, which led to Shirke being regularly shouted at in front of all his colleagues.

Abhishek said Shinde had made station entries against his father for being absent from his assigned duty points several times and asked how Shinde could always check on Shirke despite many other officers working in the police station. He said Shinde had levelled false allegations against his father several times, which Shirke used to share with Abhishek and the rest of the family after reaching home.
Pressured
“In the last six months, several adverse entries were made in the station diary against my father by API Deepak Shinde, which shows that he was willingly putting mental pressure on him while he was on duty. He was also misleading Senior PI Joshi about my father, which would lead to him getting shouted at in front of everyone,” said Abhishek.
“My father was earlier attached to the DN Nagar. LT Marg, Azad Maidan and other police stations, but he never said that he was facing problem during duty hours. It happened only in Vakola. API Shinde claimed that my father was not present at his duty spot on Friday night then why did he not track down his location, My father had left the duty spot to answer nature’s call. They just wanted to portray his record in a bad light in the service sheets,” he added.
Singled out
He said that after the incident, the entire police department said that his father, ASI Shirke, was an accused but they should first prove how API Shinde is not an accused in the case.
“SPI Vilas Joshi was killed because of API Shinde,” Abhishek said. ASI Shirke’s wife said that about four to five months ago, her husband was on duty for two months in a combat van and in the High Court and had been issued a revolver then. She said he did not take the horrific step then and had been forced to take it now because he was harassed and something wrong was being done with him.
‘No help’
Abhishek said that after prolonged harassment by API Shinde, his father was looking to meet Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria to make him aware about the problems he was facing during duty hours, but he did not get chance to meet the top cop.
He said that even on the day of the incident, CP Rakesh Maria began looking for Shirke’s bad record instead of giving any sympathy to the family after the incident. “My father has spend more than 30 years in this department, but no one came forward to help him.” Abhishek alleged that his father had also complained to a DCP, but his problem was not taken seriously.
