Beset with fears of an uncertain future, Metro Shoes staff grasp at straws
Employees of Metro Shoes, one of the oldest shops in the Metro House building, were yesterday lounging about in the shadows of the ground floor staircase as water trickled down the same stairs — a sign of the ongoing cooling process being carried out by the fire officials upstairs. "We are not going to lose our jobs," said an employee, dismissing claims that the building might be sealed. "We may be shifted to other locations. In spite of the fire and even though the shop isn’t open, we have still come to work."

"Like many employees, we were scouring the road for hours, hoping to get a glimpse of the damage inside the shop," said another Metro employee.
One could discern an undercurrent of apprehension, though, "We are scared that the building might be sealed forever," said Mitesh Chauhan, a Metro employee.
"All the pillars that used to hold up the building are burnt, and the structural foundation of it (the building) has become weak after the fire."
That sentiment summed up the feelings of so many others beset with feelings of uncertainty and trepidation, as cooling operations continued.
