According to experts, the sanctuary is an ideal rescue centre for birds. A little away from the city’s noise and pollution, the Karnala Bird Sanctuary offers a peaceful area for recovering birds rescued from the cites of Mumbai and Thane.
“We have visited the sanctuary where we came across some damaged cages that can be repaired and used for wildlife welfare,” said Shakuntala Majumdar, president of TSPCA.
Sources said the sanctuary has been selected as a temporary set-up for birds and animals that are recovering and do not require much treatment or critical observation. This will also allow TSPCA to made space for critical cases of injured birds in their hospital.
Speaking to mid-day, VP Patil, the deputy chief conservator of forests at Karnala Bird Sanctuary said, “We will begin the repair work of cages from Monday and ensure the work is complete before monsoon begins.”
