J Dey murder case: Charges framed against 10 accused

The Special MCOCA court at Arthur Road on Monday framed charges against 10 accused in connection with the murder case of senior mid-day journalist J Dey. The special MCOCA court Judge AL Pansare framed the charges against the accused.

Speaking to mid-day, special public prosecutor Raja Thakre confirmed the framing of charges against the 10 accused at the MCOCA court.


The framing of charges has taken place almost four years after the murder of Dey, who was shot dead at Powai, on June 11, 2011, by six assailants, allegedly at the behest of gangster Chhota Rajan.

According to the police, Rajan was upset with the journalist as he had written two articles portraying him negatively.

Presently three of the accused – former journalist Jigna Vora, Deepak Sisodia and Paulson Joseph -- are on bail while seven other accused lodged in judicial custody.

A key accused in the case, Vinod Asrani aka Vinod Chembur, died in April this year of liver cirrhosis while another accused, Anil Waghmode, is suffering from a chronic disease.

All accused have been booked under the strict provisions of MCOCA and various sections of IPC.
