The CBI, which is investigating the cases of Rajan, was supposed to file a charge sheet on Monday against him in the J Dey murder case. The CBI, however informed court, that they cannot file the supplementary chargesheet on Monday because they had some procedures to complete, and sought a later date.
One of the defence advocates, Santosh Deshpande, told court that if CBI is not filing the charge sheet in the case, it should go ahead with framing charges. The court, presided over by Judge Sameer Adkar, said that if CBI doesn’t file a charge sheet on the next date of hearing, the court will go ahead with framing charges against Rajan based on previous charge sheet. The CBI then told court that they could go ahead with the decision if the CBI failed to file the chargesheet on August 5.
Dey, who was Editor (Investigations) mid-day, was shot dead in Powai on June 11, 2011, when he was on his way home on his motorcycle. The court has till now examined four witnesses after which the trial has been delayed, as the main accused Rajan was arrested.
