Mumbai Sessions court on Saturday convicted an accused from Shivaji Nagar for assaulting a man, which caused him to lose an ear. The accused has around 20 cases in the same local police station.

The special MCOCA judge A L Pansare convicted Mohammad Raees Ansari alias Pappu Kalia, (38) to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5 lakh for attempt to murder under various sections of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
According to police, on April 5, 2014 Mohammad Sharif Shah a resident of Shivaji Nagar shot Ansari at Govandi. Ansari was then hospitalised for two days. An official from Shivaji Nagar Police station said that the shootout could be a result of a dispute over power theft and its unauthorized supply in slum colonies. Sharif was later arrested for the shooting.
Investigating officer Sachin Sanap from Shivaji Nagar police station said, "Just two days after Ansari was discharged from the hospital, he attacked Sharif's brother Mohammed Naeem Shah along with his friend. He lost his an ear in the assault. Ansari was immediately arrested but his friend is still absconding."
Sanap also said, "Ansari has around 20 cases against him in our police station regarding assault and extortion."
