Heavy downpour evens out delayed rainfall in Mumbai

According to meteorological department, the city has crossed the rainfall expected till July 28, recording 5 per cent excess in Colaba, and 7 per cent excess in Santacruz

After a disappointing start to the monsoon season, with almost no rainfall in June, the deficit has been covered this month, according to weather officials.

After the city witnessed heavy downpour on Sunday, the catchment areas have recorded an increase in water levels (see table). According to the meteorological department, both Colaba and Santacruz have crossed the expected rainfall received, recording 5 per cent and 7 per cent excess rainfall respectively till July 28.


On Monday, Colaba recorded 9.6 mm and Santacruz recorded 12.2 mm rainfall. The regional meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall to continue this week as well.
