According to RPF sources, the team was on duty at Nalasopara Railway station, after they had been given instructions by their superiors to take action against hawkers loitering inside and outside the railway premises. They caught around seven vendors who were allegedly selling vegetables and fruits near the foot-over bridge on the east side, and were taking them to the station. One vendor, Raju Mishra, refused to go, and started shouting.

A hawker named Dharmendra Kuswaha, along with other vendors and hawkers, came to Mishra’s aid and they started putting pressure on the police to leave them alone. Soon, a mob gathered and started throwing stones at the police. More RPF police personnel came as back up, but by that time, woman constable Naushin Aftab Hussain Shaikh, 40, had already got injured. “My right hand got injured.

The pain is less but I can’t work with it. Mishra and Kuswaha escaped from the spot,” she said, and added, “After getting medical treatment, we approached the Tulinj Police station and registered a case. But no arrests have been made yet.”
