The new regulation comes after a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the area
Due to an increasing number of untoward incidents taking place in the Aarey Milk Colony (AMC), the road that runs through it has now become restricted entry post 10 pm.

According to the rule, between 10 pm and 6 am, the AMC road can be accessed only by residents of the society. Outsiders will be barred from entering through all three gates. This step has been taken to put an end to incidents of crime that have become rampant there.
A police constable posted at the Marol entry point of the road said: “Earlier, the Aarey Road was a private road as it came under the jurisdiction of the Aarey Milk Colony CEO and outside vehicles were barred post midnight. After the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation took over, the restriction was lifted.
ince then we have noticed a marked rise in crimes in the area. This has led to the new regulation, according to which public vehicles and outsiders will not be allowed between 10 pm and 6 am.”
Post 10 pm, two police constables each will be deployed at Marol, Powai and Goreagon entry points of the AMC road and even residents will have to show their address proof to access the road. A register will be maintained to record details of those who enter the colony.
AMC, spread across 12 square kilometers, has vast pockets of deserted areas replete with forests. Even the streets become empty after dark.
On March 1, an auto rickshaw driver allegedly raped a five-year-old girl from the nearby Sahar area in one of the isolated patches. Last April, a 17-year-old boy was also stabbed to death.
These incidents have prompted the police to increase vigil in the area and deploy foot patrolling on the internal road and the forest patches.
