Amid opposition and criticism over the proposed Central Park in Cuffe Parade, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also planned separate waterways for fishermen to dock their boats etc. Despite the Koli community's fears, the civic body claims that the fishermen's colony will not be moved from the area and they will be provided exclusive space for fishing.

New park
The BMC has proposed construction of a 300 acre Central Park in Cuffe Parade by reclaiming the sea near Badhwar Park. For the reclamation, the civic body has approached the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Authority (MMRDA), to give them soil excavated from Metro-3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) work. mid-day had reported (July 8) the civic body's plan of using the soil for the Central Park.

No shifting
Assistant Municipal Commissioner of A ward (CST, Churchgate) Kiran Dighavkar said, "The fishermen's community will not be moved from their existing area. They will be provided proper waterways to dock their boats and other activities. Before starting the construction of Central Park we will take the opinion of National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) officials for feasibility."

Damodar Tandel, president of Akhil Maharashtra Machchimar Kriti Samiti said, "The authorities cannot reclaim as the government itself had marked reservation in the same area for the fishermen's community. On Wednesday, I will meet municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta to raise this issue."
