If you want to go for an Ed Sheeran concert, arriving fashionably late isn't the way to go. Just ask thousands of the singer's fans in Mumbai, who lost out on their chance to watch him perform in JioGardens in BKC on November 19 all because the tickets were sold out within a flat 48 minutes. According to a statement from BookMyShow, the diamond category (Rs 12,000) was the first to be sold out, followed by gold (Rs 8,000) and silver (Rs 4,750).
Fans disappointed
Mumbai has hosted a number of mega music artists such as Iron Maiden, Coldplay and Justin Bieber, so fans were prepared to face the traffic to score the tickets for Sheeran's concert. But latecomers to the queue were left high and dry, and took to Twitter to express their anguish, disappointment and grief over not being able to attend the concert. While some said they "had nothing to live for", others tweeted directly to the Grammy Award winner asking him if he could provide them up with a ticket.
Anticipated traffic
"We are elated and overwhelmed by the response received for the online ticket sales for Ed Sheeran's Mumbai concert," said Kunal Khambati, head, live events and IP, BookMyShow. "Just as we had anticipated, we witnessed enormous demand and traffic on our platforms from thousands of Ed Sheeran fans, not just residing in India but outside as well. Our virtual queue management system...allowed thousands of lucky users to get their tickets on a first come first served basis."
