Police sources said, the two Kharghar police constables, Praful Patil (32) and Rajesh Shondkar (45), were out on patrolling duty when Oza rammed into their two-wheeler. The incident took place at 12.30 am near Gram Vikas Bhavan. A case has been registered against Oza at Kharghar Police Station under Sections 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 184 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Assistant Police Inspector SV Patil, who is investigating the case, said, “The accused claims he was returning home after a few drinks — 'since it was a Saturday' — when the incident took place. He was produced in court on Sunday and released on bail.”
While Shondkar, who was riding pillion, suffered minor injuries, Patil was rushed to Fortis Hospital with head injuries. Doctors said he fractured his occipital bone (skull injury) and had to be admitted to the ICU. Patil was shifted to the general ward for further treatment yesterday. Speaking to mid-day, Patil said, “I remember I was riding a motorcycle. How I landed in hospital I can’t seem to remember.”
