Sudhir Mishra plans to make a film on doctor-activist who was imprisoned on charges of sedition

Acting and activism are by no means far-off from filmmaker Sudhir Mishra's range of vision.

Now that the doctor-activist Binayak Sen, who was imprisoned in Chattisgarh on charges of sedition, is out on bail, Sudhir is all set to meet Dr Sen for a film on his intriguing life.

Says Sudhir, "It's a long-cherished dream and now that Dr Sen is out of jail, I'm more enthused than ever to make a film on him."

"My only problem is that his case is sub judice. The man is out on bail and therefore there are legal if not moral constraints," he says.

But Sudhir plans to sidestep the legalese and make a film on the elements that went into the life of Binayak Sen.

However, the only hitch is that filmmaker Anand Patwardhan too has been working on a documentary on the life of Dr Binayak Sen.

"Anand is the guy who knows Dr Sen's life while I'm the guy who wants to know more about him," says Sudhir.

Who's Dr Binayak Sen?

He is a paediatrician and national vice-president of the People's Union for Civil Libertiesu00a0 based in Chhattisgarh. In May 2007, he was detained for acting as a courier for an alleged naxalite who is in jail.

Sen's detention has been declared in breach of international law by Amnesty International. His trial commenced on 30 April 2008, while the Supreme Court, on May 25, 2009, granted him bail.
