Did woman come under train on purpose?

The Government Railway Police are yet to ascertain if a woman, who was run down by a local train yesterday, came in the train’s path by accident. The front hook of the train, bound for Bhayander, struck the woman, in her 30s leading to her death. A case of accident has been registered.

According to eyewitnesses, when the Churchgate-Bhayander fast train approached Lower Parel from Mahalaxmi the woman came in front of the train. “I was in a train going to Churchgate and saw the incident. It looked like a suicide as the woman seemed to just be standing in front of the train,” said a passenger.

The incident took place around 12 pm between Lower Parel and Mahalaxmi. “The Lower Parel station master and other staff sent the body to Nair Hospital where the woman was declared dead on arrival,” said a WR senior official. Trains were delayed for nearly 10 minutes due to the incident.

A colleague, who had gone to the hospital, said, “She came to office at Lower Parel at 11 and left to go somewhere leaving all her belongings. She used to stay with her husband in Sion. However, she was staying in Prabhadevi with her brother for some time.” “People should be thoughtful and not take shortcuts. Such steps of trespassing will not only inconvenience fellow commuters but also family members,” said S Chandrayan, chief PRO, WR.
