Businessman Mukesh Thakkar (46) reportedly jumped to death from his 17th floor residence at Peddar Road early last morning.

The police believe it is a case of suicide, as he wasu00a0 depressed. However, doctors at Jaslok Hospital are yet to ascertain the cause of death. Thakkar was a partner in Hermes Travel and Cargo Ltd.


Sanjay Diwadkar, senior PI from Gamdevi police station, said, "Depression could be the reason for his death, as he had no financial problems. As of now, we believe it is a suicide case."

The building watchman found Thakkar's body on the garage roof at 5.30 am, after which firemen were called to remove the body.

Family statements recorded by the police state that Thakkar was unwell since 5 pm on Monday, and was depressed due to a business-related problem. He is survived by his wife Roopal and two children.

"The body had multiple injuries and a fractured spine. The police brought the body at 7 am, but he was already dead," said Dr Mohante, MD, Jaslok Hospital.

The body was later shifted to J J Hospital for postmortem. The nails and viscera clippings will be sent for forensic tests.
