Earlier in March, the spokesperson said, the agency had prepared sketches and shared them with police. These sketches were prepared on the basis of information provided by the witnesses of the crime on August 20, 2013. Dabholkar was shot dead when he was out for morning walk in Pune.
A senior officer speaking to Mid-Day, on condition of anonymity, said, “We are investigating the case since June and formed four teams for the same. One team is focusing on documentary evidences and the chain of investigation carried out by the city police and SIT. On the basis of eyewitness we have prepared sketches of two suspects.”
He added, “One sketch is of the assailant who was riding the bike. According to eyewitnesses, he was the one to first shoot Dabholkar and might be around 26-29 years old. He had worn a pale yellow white cap with a branded company logo on it.”
About the other sketch, he said, “It is of the pillion rider who shot Dabholkar after the bike took a U-turn. He has curly hairs and round face.”
CBI had registered an FIR in this incident in June last year after the Bombay High Court transferred the case to it. The Bombay High Court had transferred the probe to CBI on May 9 last year on the basis of a PIL filed by former journalist Ketan Tirodkar on the plea that there was no headway in the Maharashtra police probe several months after the killing of the eminent rationalist.
The spokesperson said any information regarding the case can be addressed to the Superintendent of Police or its Deputy SP D S Chauhan, Special Crime Branch, Mumbai or on Phone Nos: 022 27576804 and 022 27576802 or the email id: hboscmum@cbi.gov.in
