Mumbai's top police officials are now taking to guns in a big way and will begin practising at the Goregaon firing range from Thursday.

The Director General of Police S S Wirk and City Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor are planning to practise at the test firing range at SRPF ground in Goregaon from Thursday morning. They will be using automatic weapons like the AK47s and Glock pistols.

It is very unlikely that the top brass in the state police would be using their weapons, but the occasion is likely to be used tou00a0 declare the launch of Force One, a commando group being trained on the lines of the National Security Guard.

The government had declared that they would get the first batch of Force One commandos ready by May this year. A decision to this effect was taken after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Force One commandos are being equipped with the state-of-the-art AK-104 rifles, Russian OSV-96 heavy sniping rifles, Galil sniper rifles and Negev Light Machine Guns (LMG).

Meanwhile, SRPF constables are busy cleaning the firing range at their headquarters so that the facilities could be used by the police top brass.
