The nine cops did not inform local police in Vakola before barging into youth's residence, assaulting him and dragging him to the station for possession of drugs; they later failed to produce the substance
Reading in MiD DAY that the Bandra police had surreptitiously taken action in a Vakola case without informing the local cops, DCP Mohan Dahikar (Zone VIII) has initiated a high-level probe in the matter. MiD DAY had reported yesterday how nine Bandra cops had allegedly helped a Kalina-based landlord evict his 20-year-old tenant from his property in Vakola by framing the youth for possession of drugs (‘Bandra cops under scanner for framing Santacruz tenant to evict him’).u00a0

DCP Dahikar said, “I came to know about it through MiD DAY. Disciplinary action will be taken against the officer of Bandra police station and his staff. Justice will be delivered.” On Tuesday night, the tenant Rajesh Gupta was picked up by Bandra cops on suspicion of drug possession.
The cops thrashed him, and dragged him to the station. Within minutes, around 30 men arrived in a tempo and broke into the flat and left with his valuables. They also forced entry into Gupta’s neighbour Sufian Shaikh’s house. The goons abducted Shaikh and took all his valuables with them. Shaikh and Gupta were both tenants of J C D’souza, who has been arrested in the case for plotting the entire episode.
The next morning, Bandra API Mukund Yadav let Gupta go, after presenting him to Senior Inspector Abhay Shashtri. DCP Dahikar, ACP Zunjarrao Gharal, and a senior police inspector of Vakola police station are now investigating the case. API Yadav was summoned to the station yesterday to give his statement.
According to sources, he said that an informer had misguided him. He had no explanation to offer for raiding the apartment in Vakola without first informing the Vakola police, or for thrashing Gupta. DCP Dahikar said, “We have added kidnapping charges to the case and are searching for Shaikh.” u00a0
