Maharashtra's special security force of commandos, created to combat terror attacks, is expected to be ready in the next 60 days, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said today.

The Force one, to be drawn from the state police, is expected to be on the lines of the elite National Security Guards (NSG) and is to be equipped with sophisticated weapons to tackle terror attacks like the recent Mumbai terror strikes which left over 160 dead and over 300 injured.

The selection process of commandos to be trained for the elite force will begin soon, Chavan said.

The Chief Minister was attending a meeting of senior police officials from across the state at the Director General of Police headquarters in the presence of Home Minister Jayant Patil.

National Security Guards were also evaluating sites at a few locations suggested by Maharashtra government to set up a base, Chavan said. A team of NSG was in Mumbai a few days ago which visited some of the sites suggested by Maharashtra government, he said
