Byculla Police has arrested a 42-year-old man with a thousand bottles of Corex cough syrup, which are being used as drugs by chain snatchers and other offenders. The accused was identified as Lokesh Devchand Jain, a resident of Prabhadevi.

According to police sources, Jain was arrested following a tip-off; a trap was laid near Golden Rock Hotel in Byculla, by the police, who caught Jain red-handed with a thousand bottles of Corex. He was arrested on Saturday at 12:30 pm. During investigations he revealed that he use to take the syrup from a dealer named Bharat and would sell them at various places in Mumbai.
He had clients to sell it from Nallasopara to Colaba. Jain, a history-sheeter, was earlier arrested by the Food and Drugs Administration and the Nallasopara Police for the same offence. He has been supplying the syrup to several areas in Mumbai populaated by chain snatchers and other offenders for the past several years.
Police Inspector Nandkumar Gopale from the Byculla Police station said, “Jain was arrested in the morning and was presented before magistrate court from where he was sent to judicial custody. He is a habitual offender and used to run a medical shop earlier.”
He was booked under section 273 (Sale of noxious food or drink) of Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of Drugs and Cosmetic Substance Act.
