Investigators are probing minute details of J Dey's Europe tour and planned trip to the Philippines to get leads on Rajan's motive

The Mumbai Police, which is trying hard to establish a motive in the J Dey murder case after the seven accused confirmed that Chhota Rajan was the man behind it, says it is confident of getting definite leads from his tour details and cellphone records.

Cops say they are confident of getting leads from details of Dey's movements during the tours. Six of the seven accused, who were remanded to police custody till July 4

Cops are scouring the itinerary of Dey's visit to France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK between April 27 and May 5 to ascertain whether something that happened in these places led to the journalist's murder.

They have also summoned the tour operator of Raj Tours & Travels, who arranged for Dey's trip, to get minute details of his movements and the people he met during the visit.

"We are doing this despite getting no confirmation of him meeting any gang members during the visit. We are confident that his tour to the eight places will throw up some leads," said a police officer attached to the investigation.

Dey was also planning to go on a junket from his office to the Philippines in the last week of June and had, on June 11, couriered his passport details to the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi.

The police have spoken to representatives of the Delhi company that was arranging the tour to get details of the places he was supposed to visit.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said, "We are collecting all the details of the tours and will speak to the operator of Raj Tours & Travels and the other operator who was organising the Philippines trip."

While the police were earlier probing only the calls made to and by Dey a few days before his murder, they have now asked for details of all calls since April. This move, they say, stems from the need to look into his call records since the Europe tour.

What has raised the police's suspicion is the fact that Rajan had called the shooter at the end of May, just a few days after Dey returned from his trip.
