Commuters on the Harbour line say they are fed up of the poorly maintained stations. While they claim unclean premises and filthy toilets are common across stations on the line, Nerul station has a unique problem — that of plaster cracking on the roof of the foot overbridge (FOB) and falling on commuters.

Pieces of plaster have been falling from the roof of the FOB for nearly two months and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), which is responsible for maintenance of the station, has put up steel nets last week to prevent the chunks from falling on commuters walking below.

Saiesh Chodankar, a commuter, said, “It is unsafe to walk on the FOB in such conditions. Chunks of the plaster can peel off and injure commuters. Railway officials should repair the roof at the earliest to avoid any untoward incidents.”

Commuters also complained of the shoddy condition of stations across the Harbour line. “The condition of stations on the Harbour line is pathetic. The toilets are filthy, station premises are unclean and water taps are constantly running,” said Arun Tiwari, a commuter.

Last month, CIDCO had announced that it would hand over all its stations to Central Railway by March 2015. The Harbour and Trans-Harbour railway stations were jointly constructed by CIDCO and Central Railway. Vashi was commissioned in 1992, while other stations such as Sanpada, Juinagar, Nerul, Seawoods, CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Mansarovar, Khandeshwar and Panvel were completed in 1996.
