Cleaner accused of molesting boy at Mumbai school cleared by cops

The cleaner, who was accused of molesting a four-year-old boy at a Kandivli school, was given a clean chit in the case yesterday.

Both the police and parents determined that the cleaner, 25-year-old Vijay, had not molested or sodomised the child. The latter eventually withdrew the case.

The July 24 report of the incident in mid-day

mid-day reported the incident on July 24 (‘Cleaner kisses 4-yr-old, cops let him off with a warning’). On July 18, after the boy’s lectures ended at 11.15 am, he went missing for 20 minutes. His parents got worried and feared for his safety. They then saw Vijay bring their child out of the school building and suspected that the cleaner had molested their son.

Vijay, however, pleaded innocence. The school fired the cleaner, and the Kandivli police registered a non-cognisable complaint against the cleaner, and released him with a warning. Senior inspector Mahipati Pandhermise said, "We investigated the matter found that Vijay had not molested the boy. The parents, too, did not find anything to suggest sodomy. They have withdrawn their complaint.
