The proposal of buying these green-coloured bins — each with a carrying capacity of 120 litres — will be put before the Standing Committee for approval today.
The civic body would be spending Rs 3.76 crore to purchase the dustbins. Of the 20,000 dustbins, 15,500 would be given to the corporators and the remaining 4,500 would be distributed among the BMC’s conservancy staff.
The corporators would be responsible for installing the bins on school premises, housing societies, and public places, among other locations. The civic body has been purchasing these easy-to-use dustbins for the last seven years. The current contract for supplying the bins expired on July 21.
