The Mumbai police has dispatched a special, experienced team to investigate the vicious murder of a Dalit family of three in Ahmednagar. The development came after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a review meeting with Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria yesterday.

On October 22, villagers of Javkhede Khalasa in Pathardi taluka found the bodies of Sanjay Jadhav, his wife Jayshree and their son Sunil, inside a well. Sources said the bodies had been cut into pieces. The local police and a special task force did not succeed in detecting the case.

The Mumbai Crime Branch had been giving the police technical help, but on Friday afternoon, the CM asked the top cop to send his best officers to work on the case and help the local cops with investigative skills.

Consequently, seven police officers and four constables of the Crime Branch left for Ahmednagar the same evening. The officials belong to the property cell, the criminal investigation unit and the anti-extortion cell, all under the Crime Branch.

Currently, cops are looking at a couple of theories that might explain the vicious triple murders: a land dispute, or the son Sunil’s relationship with a girl provoking speculations of a casteist angle. The Republican Party of India has been protesting against the murders across the state.
