Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan presided over a high-level security meeting this week directing the Mumbai police to make special security arrangements in the wake of threat perceptions during Ganeshotsav.
Senior officials from the state home department said that Chavan urged them to be ‘innovative and fearless’. Sources said, while there were no specific inputs on a terror strike, there were serious and ‘concerning’ inputs on possible strikes.
Due to regular inputs from intelligence agencies and the impending assembly elections, the strength of deployment has gone up this year.
The meeting was attended by state minister for home Satej Patil, Mumbai Mayor Sunil Prabhu, additional chief secretary (home) Amitabh Rajan and police commissioner Rakesh Maria among other senior officials from the security establishment.
