The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) arrested an international passenger and his accomplice for smuggling gold in the wee hours on Wednesday at the Mumbai international airport.

The authorities caught the international flier red handed while he was trying to hand the smuggled goods over to a domestic passenger in the transit area.

At around 1.35 am a passenger identified as Mohamed Anas Ruknuddin landed in Mumbai from Dubai flight 9W 543. Ruknuddin was seated on 25C and was supposed to fly to Bangkok by flight 9W 70 that takes off from T2 at around 8am. Ruknuddin was carrying about 1.7kg gold jewelry and that was detected by the CISF in the transit Security Hold Area (SHA).

While screening Ruknuddin's hand baggage gold image was detected in his bag and he was ordered to give a physical check. After the gold was detected, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) immediately made sure that Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTV) followed Runuddin. Later on, AIU and Customs co-ordinated with the CISF team to catch him handing over the gold jewellery to another passenger named Ahmed Gulzar who was supposed to fly to Ahmedabad by flight AI 130 (London to Ahemdabad via Mumbai at around 4am). The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) caught both the passengers and took the them into custody for further investigation.
