NEARLY two days after CCI's CEO Kamaljeet Rajpal was admitted to Bombay Hospital after a bullet wound to his head, his son Sudheer insists it was an accident. Sudheer Rajpal says his father was cleaning his pistol on Friday when he accidentally shot himself. The son adds that Kamaljeet had spoken to him after the incident, while being taken to the hospital. Earlier, the police had said that it was a case of suicide because his family members had said he was tense.
Said senior police inspector D K Vanjari of Cuffe Parade police station, "According to the family members, he looked tense and frustrated for the last few days and was also hardly speaking to them. We are not able to take his statement, as he is not in a proper state."
V Bhole, investigating officer of the case, said, "We took the statement of the family members. His son told us that it was an accident. His father was cleaning the pistol when he accidentally fired one round that hit him on his head."
He added, "Rajpal was in a conscious state after he fired the round. He was conscious when he reached the hospital as well."
However, it is hard to believe that Rajpal was conscious after sustaining a head injury. According to the police on Friday, he was in a critical condition and unconscious.
V Bhole says that the facts will be known only after Rajpal's statement is recorded.u00a0
Rajpal has a 7.65 mm Indian-made pistol. On Friday evening, he fired one round and the police found 17 more bullets from the spot in his room where the shooting took place. The police have found his license (Rajpal has held a gun since 2001) and say that it is legal.u00a0
A lady member of the CCI had lodged a complaint against Rajpal, alleging that he had sent her a sex clip in 2007.
It was not only the sex clip that was allegedly sent by Rajpal in March 2007 that led her to file a complaint against him. Rajpal had also allegedly harassed her a number of times since 2007 by passing lewd comments, according to the woman's complaint to the police.
The lady, who used to work with Rajpal earlier, approached the cyber crime cell recently, after she found out that sending a sex clip comes under the Information Technology act. According to the police, she did not contact them during the time of incident as she did not want to get into a police case and was afraid of the consequences. But Rajpal allegedly continued passing lewd comments which finally drove her to lodge a complaint.u00a0
After investigations, the cyber crime cell found Rajpal guilty and asked the Marine Drive police to file a complaint under the IT act and for sexual harassment of a woman, few days ago.u00a0
Sanjay Amrute, senior police inspector of Marine Drive police station, said, "We just filed the FIR. We have not yet investigated the case."
